I was reading To Kill a Mockingbird the other day when I realized it's been a year since I read a work of fiction that didn't end with Aldo Raine/Hans Landa hate sex.I normally gravitate toward stories about people with fatal character flaws, so it's oddly refreshing to find myself in love with Atticus Finch--and not have to feel guilty about it ( Read more... )

Brubaker is such a wakachika-wakachika-worthy title. Every time I read it, I get the theme music from Mitchell (MST3K!) stuck in my head.

It seems like a lot of Robert Redford's movies are B-versions of really popular movies with similar themes, but then again I usually end up learning things backwards so I can never tell who borrowed from whom.

I have a tendency to roll my eyes when it comes to movies where an ambitious young man dives headfirst into politics only to have his spirit broken by the system, but The Candidate was different--unless, of course, I'm forgetting a scene in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington where the hero politely declines to sign a woman's breasts.

I've seen two movies since my last post: Victor Victoria and A Bridge Too Far.
